Sri Lanka established the Bureau of Foreign Employment in 1985 to promote, regulate and develop the foreign employment industry. The flow of migrants has constantly increased and almost all of them are absorbed by the Middle East. Since over 60 percent are domestic workers, the male to female ratio is 1:3.
